JAMB Set to Announce 2025 Admission Cut-Off Marks Next Week, Key Policy Changes Underway
Abuja, Nigeria –
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) are poised to hold its crucial 2025 Policy Meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
This annual gathering of stakeholders in the education sector will determine the admission benchmarks (cutoff marks) for universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and monotechnics across the country for the upcoming academic year.
The announcement, made by JAMB via its official X handle, highlights the significance of this meeting in shaping the future of tertiary education in Nigeria. Beyond setting cut-off marks, the Policy Meeting will also deliberate on and ratify key policy guidelines and regulations governing admissions.
It is also expected that JAMB will announce the best-performing candidates in the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at this event.
While attendance at the meeting is strictly by invitation, JAMB has assured the public that live coverage will be available on its social media platforms, encouraging interested individuals to follow for real-time updates.
This upcoming policy meeting follows a series of significant updates and changes introduced by JAMB for the 2025 admission cycle and beyond, aimed at streamlining processes, enhancing transparency, and ensuring compliance.
Key Changes and Updates for the 2025 Admission Cycle:
* Age Requirement: Starting from the 2025 admission cycle, JAMB will only admit candidates who are at least 18 years old. This marks a departure from the previous policy that allowed 16-year-olds to gain admission. This change was prominently advertised beginning in November 2024.
* O-Level Data Integration: To reduce administrative burden and minimize errors, admission officers will now download candidates’ O-Level data directly from the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), eliminating the need for separate submissions by students during screening.
* Biometric and Photograph Requirements: Tertiary institutions are no longer to request biometric data or photographs from candidates during admission screenings, as JAMB aims to protect candidate privacy and streamline verification.
* Post-UTME Fees Cap: A maximum fee of N2000 has been set for Post-UTME screening exercises to prevent exploitation and ensure accessibility for all candidates.
* Correction of Data Deadline: Candidates seeking to correct any personal or academic data for the 2024 UTME and earlier cycles had until October 31, 2024, to do so in preparation for the 2025 JAMB registration.
* Illegal Admissions: Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated its stance against illegal admissions, stating that it will no longer condone or regularize any admissions beyond the 2020 set that are processed outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). All admissions for the 2024 cycle and beyond must be conducted exclusively through CAPS.
* Change of Course/Institution: The change of course and institution for 2025 has already commenced, allowing candidates to adjust their choices at accredited centers or Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) offices. Candidates are advised to carefully consider their new choices, check cut-off marks, and ensure their subject combinations align with their intended courses.
Prospective students and stakeholders are urged to stay informed about these critical policy changes and follow official JAMB channels for accurate information regarding admissions. The upcoming policy meeting on July 8th will undoubtedly provide further clarity and direction for the 2025 academic year.
