Mazda Unveils All-New 2026 CX-5: Bigger, Bolder, and More Technologically Advanced
IRVINE, Calif. – July 11, 2025 – Mazda North American Operations today officially debuted the highly anticipated 2026 CX-5, marking a significant evolution for the brand’s best-selling crossover SUV.
This third-generation model promises a more spacious cabin, innovative technology, and an updated design that takes cues from Mazda’s larger CX-70 and CX-90 siblings.
The 2026 CX-5 arrives with a notably larger footprint, boasting a wheelbase stretched by three inches and an overall length increase of 4.5 inches. This expansion directly translates to enhanced rear seat comfort and a more generous cargo area, which is now two inches longer and over an inch higher, with a lower lift-in height for easier loading. Mazda has also improved ingress and egress with wider rear door openings.
Visually, the new CX-5 showcases the latest evolution of Mazda’s “Kodo” design philosophy. While retaining a familiar silhouette that is unmistakably CX-5, the updated design features a bolder look with more modern headlights and taillights, new wheel designs, and a black frame connecting the slim headlights to the reshaped grille, forming a “wing” motif. The “MAZDA” lettering across the tailgate is another fresh design element.
Inside, the cabin receives a significant overhaul, emphasizing practicality, comfort, and a more upscale feel. The most prominent change is the integration of Mazda’s largest touchscreen infotainment display, available in 12.9-inch or a massive 15.6-inch size on upper trims.
This new system is powered by Google Built-In technology, offering a connected experience with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior also features new ambient lighting options, premium upholstery choices, and a cleaner, more spacious layout with improved storage.
Under the hood, the 2026 CX-5 will launch with the familiar 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine, producing 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ AWD.
Mazda has confirmed an electrified alternative, with a new hybrid powertrain set to debut for the CX-5 in 2027. While the popular turbocharged 2.5-liter engine is not available at launch, the naturally aspirated engine has been recalibrated for sharper responses and a quieter demeanor.
Safety remains a priority for Mazda, and the 2026 CX-5 will feature an advanced suite of ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) features. While full details are yet to be released, standard features are expected to include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
The 2026 Mazda CX-5
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is set to go on sale towards the end of the year, with pricing information to be released closer to its on-sale date. This comprehensive redesign aims to solidify the CX-5’s position as a top contender in the highly competitive compact SUV segment, offering a compelling blend of design, technology, and practicality.
